The UNM EMS Medical Direction Consortium or “The Consortium” as it is commonly known brings together all the EMS resources within the University of New Mexico Department of Emergency Medicine EMS and Disaster Medicine Section. The consortium consists of our EMS Fellows and multiple EMS medical directors, each of whom also serves as a faculty member within the department. This partnership allows the EMS Medical Directors to collaborate, to share resources and share on-call responsibility. It also allows each participating agency to benefit from the collective expertise of all the EMS faculty members and fellows.

EM Critical Care

Our residents do a minimum of 5 months of critical care during their training, and as 2nd and 3rd years act as the senior resident in the ICU’s. We have the largest EM/Critical Care faculty in the country – 9 double-boarded EM/CC faculty working in the Emergency Department as well as providing 24 hr. faculty coverage for our ICU’s. The EM/CC faculty are active in all aspects of the training curriculum and have just launched a new ED Resuscitation Unit training program to provide innovative training to the faculty and residents in key elements of critical care within the Emergency Department. The goal is to ensure that all healthcare providers are ready to provide the highest level of care to our most seriously sick and injured patients in the ED.
